The Custom Shop was getting a little blowback from customers as they wanted to use that really nice Fiddleback on some higher end Custom guitars, and were told no, as the material was reserved for the KS series. The KS was meant to be an open-ended edition, but Dick Boak ran out of the Fiddleback Mahogany back and side sets after doing 109 examples.
The one he's looking at has a lighter burst.
I told him he should IM you as you had one "and weren't shy talking about it".
I was having conversation with the OP about perspective guitars, and I had spotted a KS at IMGB, and let him know about it. Here are my two 000's on my couch, the 000-18KS is on the right.000-28 Reimagined is on the left. IMG_1333.JPG You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post. IMG_1351.JPG You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post. The 000-18KS and the 000-18GE guitars do sound very similar to each other. But, Dick Boak made some changes to the spec so that the 000-18KS would not compete directly with the 000-18GE (Golden Era) that was also coming out in 2007. It's a great sounding 000-18, and it was styled after Kenny Sultan's 1936 Sunburst 000-18. I don't know if they all smell like that, but mine does. Mine smells of old books and brown sugar at the soundhole. This is a feature that no 1930's 000-18 ever had. It also has a Diamond and Squares short pattern on the fingerboard. It has a Style 21 Herringbone back stripe. The CF Martin logo on the headstock is inlaid Mother of Pearl. It has Fiddleback Mahogany back and sides, and a Mother of Pearl herringbone rosette. Like the 000-28EC it has a Mod-V neck, the string spacing at the bridge is about the same as the EC model. It has an Adi top and rear shifted scalloped Adi bracing and it is a short scale as is the 000-28EC. The Martin Custom shop made 109 examples in this series, I have #43.
